The good old days(?)
Something for our fellow gearheads. Older turbochargers had their own oil chamber and oil pump. These had their benefits, because they’re now integrated into the engine’s oil system. As a result, contaminated oil from a damaged engine also damages the turbo directly.
Bad fuel is sometimes the culprit. Uncombusted particles can break pieces off the blades, damage the nozzles and/or create an imbalance that will wear out your bearings faster. Thankfully fuel quality is better now, so that’s nice. The old days weren’t always so good…
